CSA Newsletter - Summer - Week 4

week 4.jpg

This note will be short, sweet, and to the point. There is a ton to do out in the field, so I will just mention a few things here and be on my way!

WHAT’S IN THE BOX:
carrots
green onions
lettuce
new potatoes!!!!!!!
beets or chard
parsley or cilantro
summer squash
garlic
sungold cherry tomatoes-large shares only
kohlrabi (1/2 of small shares)
shell peas (most shares)

ELABORATIONS:
Potatoes: The variety is called Bentji. It’s like the Yellow Finn of the Netherlands. They are slightly on the waxy side. You can steam, boil, roast, mash, etc. They are good no matter what you do to them really. We always like to enjoy the first new potatoes steamed and topped with melted garlic butter and freshly minced parsley or dill. No need to peel, as the skins are so delicate.
Shell peas: They went downhill fast. We spent a ton of time picking them and still didn’t get enough for everyone. Most of you got one last sampling. Those who did not receive them will get an extra something somewhere down the line.
Sungold cherry tomatoes: The best cherry, hands down. They are just starting to ripen. We hope to be swimming in them soon.

ROTATION REMINDER:
Just a reminder that as new crops come on, there is not always enough for everyone with the first or even second harvest. We keep careful track of who gets what, so it will all even out in the end!

That’s all for today!
